Our Story

Players-Helping-Players

In 1987, a group of retired Minnesota North Star players got together to discuss their future in the Minnesota community. Their main objective was to give something back. In that meeting they developed a plan for a non-profit Alumni Association with a two-fold mission.

The organization was initially called the “Minnesota North Star Alumni Association” but, in the early 1990s, was changed to “Minnesota NHL Alumni Association ” to better reflect the backgrounds of the members. To further align and collaborate with the current Minnesota NHL franchise, the Minnesota Wild, the organizations joined forces and rebranded as the “State of Hockey Alumni Association” fully effective in 2020.

Ultimately, through the hard work and dedication of key individuals, this organization truly has become an organization that helps “make a difference”.

  • To become involved in community affairs and charitable causes.
  • To protect and take care of their fellow alumni, ” Players-Helping-Players”

The State of Hockey Alumni continues their support of various charitable causes throughout the year. Annual events have expanded to include autograph signing sessions along with the annual State of Hockey Alumni Golf Classic, and Alumni Games for youth hockey benefits, as well as appearances during the year.

The State of Hockey Alumni Association is an ever-growing group of former NHL players who support and help one another. It is truly a family that welcomes new individuals with open arms and makes members feel a part of something special. The game of hockey has not only promoted an outlet to learn and have fun, but to maintain life-long friends through this organization and “make a difference” in the community.
